These boulevard lampposts feature a “scroll arm”, sometimes known as a “genie arm” – arabesque design elements that give it a “magic lamp” feeling. While this model features a single teardrop bulb, there is also a two-arm model which throws more light on a wider area. Though it’s called the Highland Avenue Special, these lampposts are found primarily on Hollywood Blvd., between La Brea Ave. and Vine St. They replaced the earlier Hollywood Special lights, which were a blocky “cobra head” style lamppost with five stars on the lantern housing – designed to mirror the motif of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
